Soccer festival at Mavunde

 

Eight teams from Mavunde and the surrounding areas are gearing up for the Mpho Mathoho and Brian Baloyi Soccer Tournament that will be staged at the Mavunde grounds this weekend.

According to the tournament director, Mr Neo Mutshauba, the teams that will battle it out for the championship are: Gondeni Big Cat, Masisi FC, Tshilamusi Super Eagles, Berea FC, Matangari High Aims, Makuya Try Again and the hosts, Mavunde Hungry Vultures.

The quarter-final matches will be played tomorrow while the semi-final and final will be played on Sunday. The first semi-final match is scheduled to start at 09:00, the second at 11:00 while the third and last matches are scheduled to kick off at 13:00 and 15:00 respectively.

Mutshauba said that the toss for the quarter-final matches would be conducted at the Makuya Police Station this afternoon (Friday), starting at 16:00. The toss for the semi-final matches will be conducted at the grounds tomorrow, shortly after the last quarter-final match.

According to Mutshauba, the champions will take home a cash prize of R6 000. The runners-up will become R4 000 richer while teams booted out of the tournament in the semi-final stage will each receive R2 500. Teams that will kiss the tournament goodbye in the quarter-final stage will each be given a consolation prize of R500.

Mutshauba reiterated that they had arranged four buses to ferry U/15 players to the tournament for free. Two buses will depart from Tswera village, while the other two will travel from Makuya Police Station.
