Berea FC are still in a joyous mood after the team were crowned the champions of the Funanani Ndou Attorneys Soccer Tournament at the Khubvi Benjie’s Grounds last Sunday. Berea had beaten Benny’s Care Academy 4-3 to lift the trophy.
The Zwigodini side were presented with a cheque amounting to R20,000, a floating trophy, gold medals, and two sets of soccer kit during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the game.
Berea’s journey to the final was not an easy one. They beat Makonde Home Defenders 4-0 in their round-of-16 stage match. They brutally walloped Tshamutilikwa Fire Boys 4-0 at the same venue last Saturday. Their semi-final match was against Tshimuthe FC, whom they beat 2-1 on Sunday morning.
Benny’s Care Academy became R10,000 richer, apart from the silver medals and two sets of soccer kit they were presented with. The teams eliminated in the semi-final round, Tshimuthe FC and Makonde FC, were each presented with R3,500 and a set of soccer kit. The four teams eliminated in the quarter-final round, Maelula United Brothers, Thohoyandou Manchester Flying Stars, Tshamutilikwa Fire Boys, and ABC FC, were each awarded R1,000 during the ceremony.
The player of the tournament, Kaivan Mahangwahaya, was presented with a trophy. Mahangwahaya was a marvel to watch in all the games in which he took part. He scored his team’s equalising goal in the final.
