Emerging Afro-pop artist Asakundwi Mulaudzi from Hamadala, popularly known as Asa Tee, has just released a single titled “Maanda Manzhi”. The song, which is a collaboration with JR Player, has been extremely well received since it was officially released on Tuesday, 1 February, reaching over 11,000 views in the first five days and becoming the most streamed (Venda) song of 2024 so far.

Asa Tee’s music journey started in 2013, but getting a good education was also a priority for him. In 2020, he obtained his diploma in public relations at the Vaal University of Technology. Thus far, he has released three EPs, namely “Lufuno Na Thonifho” (2021), “Live your Life” (2022), and “From Venda with Love” (2023), with several singles in between.

Asa Tee’s latest single not only celebrates the season of love but also solidifies his place as a rising star in the music industry. “Maanda Manzhi”, which means “more power” in the context of this alluring love song, emphasises the importance of putting more power into love, care, and loyalty in a relationship. “People loved it, and after only a week of performing it, it was already a well-known track,” he said.

The single serves as an introduction to his upcoming EP, “Mukundi”, set to be released in April and featuring artists such as JR Player, Mizo Phyll, Ramzeey, Sky Captain, and others. “When JR Player and I came up with this single, we were working on a joint EP in March last year. We had both been in good relationships with our partners and planned on doing something special for them as a way of showing our appreciation for them. Ironically, we were financially broke but decided to give what we could, which was our music. I am very excited about my upcoming project. I believe it will shake the music scene,” he said.
