Modern R8-million community hall opened at Tshikhudini village

The traditional leader of Tshikhudini village, near Folovhodwe, Vhamusanda Vho Piet Munyai, urged fellow traditional leaders to work closely with the government to bring development to their villages. Vho Munyai addressed politicians, representatives of community stakeholders, and villagers during the official handover of the completed Tshikhudini Community Hall last Friday.

The new community hall, which took 12 months to complete, consists of a meeting place, kitchen, administration office, ablution facilities, paved parking area, septic tank, clear-view fence and gate, borehole, and water tanks.

He said that, for many years, local villagers had faced hardships when they had wanted to convene for either community-development initiatives or social gatherings. “We are happy that our local government listened and answered our requests as we needed this type of facility for our village. I attended several meetings, without giving up, to make sure that the dream of a community hall becomes a reality in our village. This is a true demonstration that if communities work with the government, there is nothing that can stop development in their areas.”

When officially handing over the community hall, Musina Mayor Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela urged local people to take care of the facility, so that it could serve them for a long time. “This community hall is one of the most beautiful facilities in all 12 wards of our municipality. This facility is not only meant for Tshikhudini village, but everyone in this ward; even those from outside this ward can use it as long as they follow proper procedures. Besides providing much-needed shelter to the local communities, this community-hall project also served as a skills-transfer initiative by providing 20 local people with jobs during the construction period,” he said.

Local ward councillor Meltah Munzhelele promised to work with the community to take good care of the R8-million facility.
