Hundreds of people from all corners of the Vhembe region and as far as Gauteng Province gathered at Matangari Tshiombo village near Makonde to pay their last respects to Granny Nyawasedza Mauda during her burial on Saturday, 17 February.

High honour for local farmer Tshianeo Mathidi

Jimmy Jones community take own action and track down criminals

The community of Jimmy Jones outside Malamulele is heaving a sigh of relief, following the arrest of three alleged thugs. For some time now, the once peaceful village has been the target of criminals who wreak havoc, committing crimes such as housebreaking, murder, and car theft, among others. The reign of terror apparently came to an abrupt end when the community, fed up with being held hostage by the criminals, decided to act.

Former principal and community builder Leah Razwiedani dies

A prominent community leader, philanthropist, and former principal, Ms Hlekani Leah Razwiedani Gangazhe (née Maluleke), was laid to rest on Saturday (24th) at Makonde Tshipetane Cemetery. She passed away on 15 February after being admitted to the Polokwane Mediclinic. A memorial service was held for her at her church at Tshilidzini Hospital on Friday, 23 February, during which several people spoke about some of her remarkable achievements.

United Nations pulls the plug on MMSEZ support

Environmental groups and anti-Musina Makhado Special Economic Zone (MMSEZ) lobbyists rejoiced this week over the United Nations’ announcement of withdrawing its support for this highly controversial industrial park development just north of the Soutpansberg in Limpopo. Since the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) approved the development of the MMSEZ in July 2017, the project has been marred by controversy.

Nyamande to apply for bail

Tributes pour in for philanthropist who dies in car crash

Tributes began pouring in after the news broke of the death of philanthropist and community builder Mr Tshilidzi Musingadi. The 45-year-old resident of Tshidzini village, just outside Thohoyandou, died in an accident on the D523 (Khalavha) road between Nzhelele and Sibasa on Monday (26th).

The full story of 'Time Bomb' now being told on national TV

One of South Africa’s most decorated boxing champions, who was born and bred in the Vhembe District, is the very first boxer from Makwarela township to have a documentary about him aired on a national television channel. The documentary, called “Timebomb”, focuses on the life of Phillip Ndou and is currently being aired on Mzansi Magic Channel 161, three times a week: Thursdays between 09:00 and 10:00, Saturdays between 20:30 and 21:30, and Sundays between 20:30 and 21:30.

 

Will Happy Boys manage to stop Mpheni Defenders?

New assistant coach appointed for VFC
