After their successful season in the MMK Administrators Soccer League, the management of SMSA FC rewarded their team's achievers. The ceremony took place at an event at The Dam Retreat Lodge in Maniini last Saturday evening.

Reagan Maluleke, the team's top goal scorer, received a trophy and a certificate. Tibane Chauke took home the most awesome goal scorer award. The players' player award was presented to Austin Maluleke. He also received the player of the year award.

The chairman's award was presented to Vulani Matuasa. He went home with a trophy, a certificate and a cell phone. The other players who were part of the team last season, together with the management team, were each presented with certificates during the ceremony.

When delivering the keynote address, the chairman of the club, Mr Mboniseni Nemaangani, said that the club had been established in June last year and that they had a successful season in their first season as an affiliate of the MMK Administrators Soccer League.

SMSA finished their league programme in the second position, four points behind the Stream A champions, United Artists. According to Nemaangani, the players have already started with their preparations for the coming season.

During the ceremony, a representative from the league sponsors, MMK Administrators, Mr Fhatuwani Magogodela, said that his company was impressed with the fact that the league was committed to fighting any form of corrupt activity.

He stated that he was happy that the league had recently suspended one of its officials who was being investigated over allegations of trying to solicit a bribe from a club official in exchange for results. According to him, the company is currently sponsoring the league to the tune of R600 000. He appealed to league officials to distance themselves from any corrupt activity, saying such conduct brought the name of the sponsors into disrepute as well.
