The abandonment of games is fast becoming a trend in the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League. Another such incident occurred during the match between Vondwe XI Bullets and Musina United at Makhuvha Stadium last Saturday.

The atmosphere was sombre from the outset, with players hesitant to take risks for fear of making mistakes. The visitors from Musina could have taken the lead 10 minutes into the game, but their centre forward, Thendo Masindi, shot wide from inside the box despite the goalkeeper already being beaten. Lucky Mutshotsho, Bullets' prolific striker, failed to live up to fans' expectations as he was tightly marked throughout the first half.

The second half turned into a thriller after both teams made changes to their starting line-ups. The home side took the lead in the 65th minute through Lucky Mutshotsho, who blasted in a rocket after a scramble inside the box. However, the goal triggered chaos. Musina United officials were heard instructing their players not to allow the game to restart.

The situation escalated when some United officials stormed onto the pitch, demanding answers from the match officials. They claimed that the second assistant referee had raised a flag for offside before the goal was scored, an allegation the referee firmly denied.

Match commissioner Ms Lufuno Nemagovhani and the match officials tried to convince United's officials and players that the goal was legitimate, but their efforts were unsuccessful. After about 15 minutes of waiting on the pitch, referee Mr Wanga Mavhulana had no choice but to blow the final whistle.

The provincial secretary of the league, Ms Refiloe Khoza, was still awaiting match reports from both the officials and the clubs at the time of our going to print.
