She delivered a keynote address on behalf of the MEC for the Department of Health and Welfare, Mr Sello Moloto, during the International HIV/AIDS candlelight memorial day at the Giyani Community Hall last Saturday.
She appealed to the people not to discriminate against people who are HIV-positive, either at their workplaces or at home. "They have the right to be employed and earn a living to support themselves and their families. Financial institutions must also find a way of accommodating people living with HIV/Aids," she said.
She made a call on the people to continue to join hands with the government in supporting scientific researchers in their hunt for a medical cure for the killer disease. According to her intervention by traditional healers is also imperative in the search for a cure.
During the ceremony, Mrs F Halala spoke on behalf of the people who are living with people who have HIV/Aids. She appealed to people to treat AIDS-sufferers just like people who are suffering from all other ailments. "My friend with Aids is still my friend," she said.
Apart from the political leaders who attended the ceremony in abundance, traditional and religious leaders also graced the occasion. The choir from the University of Venda for Science and Technology and the Hlaneki drama group rendered some items during the ceremony.
