Tributes have been pouring in following the untimely death of one of Limpopo province's most talented actors, Ndivhuho Munyai. Munyai, widely known as Mareda and more recently as Major 100 in the Phalaphala FM soapie Ndi Yone Mini Yeneyi, has left an indelible mark on the local arts scene.
The tragic accident that claimed Munyai's life occurred on the Vuwani-Mabidi road on Saturday, 30 November. Reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle lost control, causing it to roll. Munyai was killed instantly, while the other occupants sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
His friend and fellow actor, Phathutshedzo Muthambi, better known as Boyten, confirmed the devastating news. "As friends, we had planned to spend the weekend together. He asked me to come to his place on Friday, but I couldn't make it due to other commitments. On Saturday, I went to his place, but he wasn't there. I called him, and he assured me he would be back shortly and asked me to wait for him. I stepped out briefly, and when I returned, I found the entire family in tears," Boyten recounted.
He added that Munyai's father later called him with the heartbreaking words, "You will never see your friend again."
"We went to the accident scene together. I have never experienced such pain," Boyten said.
Munyai had acted in several radio serial dramas before his recent role in the soapie Ndi Yone Mini Yeneyi.
Local arts practitioner Ndoweni Malala described Munyai's death as a significant loss to the arts community. "It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of 'Mareda,' a truly talented actor and a beloved member of our theatre community. Mareda's passion, dedication, and remarkable skill brought characters to life in ways that left us in awe. Though his journey was far too short, his talent will shine on. We will forever cherish the laughter, the stories, and the inspiration he gave us. Our thoughts are with Mareda's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace; the stage will never be the same without you. Rest in peace, Ndivhuho Munyai," he wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post.
