Adv Maxwell Sikhutshi has been elected chairperson of the Makhado Legal Practitioners Association, pledging to unite legal professionals in their pursuit of justice, integrity, and community service.

Adv Maxwell Sikhutshi has been elected chairperson of the Makhado Legal Practitioners Association (MLPA) during an elective meeting held at Hammann Moosa Incorporated’s chambers on 29 April in Louis Trichardt.

Sikhutshi’s deputy will be Johan Hamman. The position of secretary will be held by Livhuwani Sikhwari, with Dakalo Ramuthaga serving as deputy secretary. Tambani Matumba has been appointed treasurer, assisted by Shonisani Nechepete.

In his acceptance remarks, Sikhutshi said legal practitioners in the Makhado Magisterial District of Limpopo are united in their pursuit of justice, integrity and service to the community. He said the formation of the MLPA aims to advance the rule of law, uphold the rights of all people and promote ethical, competent and dedicated advocacy in the administration of justice.

He added that the association’s mission is to be a trusted and professionally governed body that upholds independence, ethics and excellence among legal practitioners in the district, while contributing to access to justice and strengthening the rule of law. He also stressed the importance of promoting high standards of professional conduct, as well as supporting the professional development and wellbeing of members.

“We recognise that the practice of law is a public trust, entrusted to those sworn to uphold the Constitution and the laws of our nation, and to respect the dignity and worth of every individual,” said Sikhutshi.

He further affirmed the association’s commitment to judicial independence, fairness and impartiality in the legal profession, the protection of human rights and equal access to legal services, and the elimination of discrimination both within the profession and in society.

Sikhutshi said the MLPA is committed to building a democratic, inclusive and principled organisation that represents the diverse interests of legal practitioners in Makhado.
