Afro jazz musician Malondolo has embraced an ancestral calling, becoming a traditional healer after a challenging personal journey.

Afro jazz musician Londolani Ramulongo, better known as Malondolo, has spoken about her decision to embrace an ancestral calling and become a traditional healer, saying the journey was both difficult and deeply personal.

“This journey was not easy. It was very tough. I tried to ignore this calling but I realized that running away from this sacred journey was tantamount to running away from myself,” she said.

She said many people were surprised by her decision to step away from the limelight to undergo ukuthwasa, adding that she has now completed the process and returned.

“I was out of limelight for a while because I was busy with ukuthwasa, but I am now back on public domain, ready to serve the ancestors,” she said.

Malondolo said she has found peace in her new path and now fully accepts her role as a traditional healer.

“I have listened and heeded the call of my ancestors who have been persuading me to follow their instructions for a while. I can now proudly tell the world that I am now Maine Malondolo or Maine Londolani without shame.”

The musician from Maungani, known for songs such as Ndi a livhuwa and Lwendo, said she continues to take guidance from her ancestors and will balance both music and healing.

“I’m always busy, climbing mountains, going up and down helping people… I am happy because I have accomplished my dream of serving my ancestors while helping my people,” she said.

She added that music and traditional healing are both callings and she plans to continue recording when time allows while serving her spiritual role.
