Local poet Sheila "The Poetic Queen" Mathebula from Bungeni is turning heartbreak into healing with her latest book, The Power of a Wounded Woman. Recently released, the book was inspired by her personal experience of mourning the loss of her son, Pfano.
Through her writing, Sheila gives a voice to women who have suffered in silence, demonstrating that wounds can become sources of strength. She explained that during her most difficult time, she discovered that her pain could be a catalyst for growth and resilience.
"It's a memoir that shares my personal journey of healing and transformation, along with a practical healing manual," she said. Her aim is to empower women to tap into their inner strength and transform their pain into power.
"Societal expectations often pressure women to stay silent, remain resilient, and sacrifice themselves after experiencing trauma. My book challenges these norms by encouraging women to acknowledge their pain, express their emotions, and focus on healing. I hope it sends a message of empowerment, reminding women that they have the strength to turn their wounds into sources of power," she said.
One example from her book is her own story of transforming grief into strength. "After losing my son, I could have let the pain consume me, but instead, I channelled it into my work and writing. This experience taught me that pain can be a catalyst for growth, creativity, and resilience," she said.
"By sharing my personal story and providing a practical healing manual, I aim to empower women to take ownership of their healing journey and tap into their inner strength," she added.
