Ambani Budeli, a University of the Free State student and proud daughter of Milaboni village in Nzhelele, has been crowned Miss Waterfall SA 2025, a title she calls the realisation of a dream she "spoke into existence."
A pageant model and founder of the community initiative LetHerSpeak49, Budeli said the crown represented more than a personal milestone. "It's about validating my own dreams and, most importantly, the dreams of everyone who relates to my story. Above all else, this crown means being a leader," she said.
LetHerSpeak49 began as a simple tree-planting project and has grown into a versatile community-service movement. Budeli plans to use her national title to expand its reach and advance her advocacy for rural empowerment and development. Her immediate focus is a sanitation drive, which will later extend to providing educational support to disadvantaged learners, helping unlock the potential of the rural youth.
Budeli describes her journey as shaped by resilience and inspired by women who fearlessly take up space in different sectors. "Seeing women cement themselves is incredibly inspirational, as it validates another girl's or woman's potential," she said.
Before winning her latest crown, Budeli was Miss Nzhelele 2022/23. While she hopes to compete on international stages, her ultimate ambition is to attend a United Nations summit to advocate for policies that improve rural communities.
For now, she remains grounded in the purpose that has guided her journey. "This is bigger than me. It's about serving, empowering, and opening doors for others," she said.
