ANC Vhembe conference taken to High Court

Disgruntled ANC members are challenging the legitimacy of the Vhembe Regional Conference in court, seeking to declare it unlawful. They aim to nullify all conference decisions and election outcomes, with a hearing date pending.

A group of ANC members has approached the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg, seeking to have the ANC Vhembe Regional Conference, held at the Kalahari Waterfront near Nandoni Dam on 4 May 2025, declared unlawful and invalid.

In papers filed on 5 February, the applicants, led by Rudzani Ludere and nine others, are challenging the legitimacy of the 9th ANC Vhembe Regional Conference and all decisions, resolutions and election outcomes arising from it.

The African National Congress, its national, Limpopo provincial and Vhembe regional executive committees, as well as several individual office bearers, are cited as respondents.

The applicants are asking the court to review and set aside the conference outcomes and to order the first to fourth respondents to pay the legal costs, including the costs of two counsel. The matter has been filed, but a hearing date is yet to be determined by the registrar.
