Things are fast going from bad to worse in the camp of Chippas United Ladies FC. After sharing the spoils with Samba Girls two weeks ago, Chippas played to another goalless draw with Re Tla Dita Ladies in their Sasol Women's League match at the Makhuvha Stadium on Sunday.
Chippas had themselves to blame for the poor result as they squandered numerous obvious scoring opportunities. It took them only eight minutes to realise that it was not their day. Their slender front runner, Tsepo Maluleke, received a neat pass from Maggie Mukhuwana and fumbled with the ball just outside the box until she lost possession.
The keeper of Re Tla Dira, Pheaha Molele, denied Chippas what everyone thought was a sure goal in the 28th minute. Salome Nndwa beat two defenders in a row and tried her luck with a half volley. Molele braved the shot and palmed the ball away for a corner kick, much to the disappointment of the Chippas fans.
The referee, Ms Vhahangwele Nembaleni, flashed the first yellow card in the 54th minute. Vhonani Singo of Chippas tackled Mavis Moarane of Re Tla Dira from behind and she was lucky not to see red. Realizing that their scoring chances were slim, the visitors played defensive football in the last 20 minutes of the game. At that stage, Chippas were all over them, firing missiles from all angles.
Tshepo Maluleke of Chippas was also reprimanded with a card, following a bad tackle on Mercy Maake nine minutes towards the end of the game.
