After losing 1-5 to Ndengeza FC at the Tshifulanani Stadium last Wednesday afternoon, Joe Maweja continued to donate league points on Sunday.
They suffered a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Mighty FC in an ABC Motsepe League match at the Tshifudi Stadium.
Maweja were good in all other departments, except the striking force. They managed to create numerous scoring chances, especially towards the end of the game. Their goal poachers let them down by shooting aimlessly at the goal finish.
Maweja realized that it was not their day when they squandered a clear scoring chance in the 18th minute. Their overlapping left back, Tshifhiwa Ramaphosa, beat two defenders and dished out a square pass from the edge of the box. As if they were hypnotized, the strikers of Maweja watched as the ball went past the goal mouth to the other end.
Matime Malepe, the Mighty midfielder, found himself on the wrong side of the football laws in the 24th minute. He tackled Lufuno Tshidada from behind and the referee was lenient enough not to let him see red.
The scoreboard was still blank when the referee blew the half-time whistle. Maweja were the first to introduce new faces to their starting 11. They replaced Tshifhiwa Ramaphosa and Lufuno Nenzhelele with Rotshidzwa Nyadzane and Talifhani Mphaphuli respectively. The move was not good enough to stop Mighty from scoring their all-important goal.
They were awarded a penalty after Thembela Mdlalose was brought down within the box. Matime Malepe scored from the penalty spot.
Mighty effected two changes to their original line-up 20 minutes into the last half. Realizing that victory was almost certain, Mighty started to play defensive football as a way to frustrate the home side.
