Tshaulu Powerlines Football Club received the biggest cheque during the prize-giving ceremony of the Boy Nemakonde Soccer Challenge, held at the Gaba Conference Centre.
Powerlines received R2 500, a soccer kit and a floating trophy during the ceremony. The team will also receive their affiliation fee for the coming season.
Powerlines' killer-striker, Ntshuxeko Simango, was nominated the best player in the tournament. He received a trophy for this achievement. He was also the top goal scorer with four goals during the tournament.
Dimani Young Masters, the runners-up in the tournament, received a soccer kit.
During the ceremony the sponsor, Mr Boy Nemakonde, indicated that he will continue to sponsor the tournament in the years to come. He emphasized that he was impressed with the way in which this year's tournament had been run. He pledged to increase the sponsorship over time.
Vhamusanda Vho Bohwana appealed to the traditional leaders to make more land available for the construction of sports facilities. She further stated that raising a child was not a one-man effort, saying "it takes the whole village to raise a child".
She also praised Mr Nemakonde for channeling a part of his income towards the development of football in the area.
