A learner of Muthuhadini Combined School is fighting for her life in the Polokwane Provincial Hospital after she was hit by a vehicle on Monday.
The accident happened at about 14:30 on the road next to Elim hospital. Adivhaho Mamukhuba (12), a Grade 6 learner, was admitted to Elim Hospital and later transferred to Polokwane. At the time of our going to press, she was still in critical condition.
Particulars of the incident are still sketchy, but the police investigations are continuing. An eyewitness operating a spaza shop near the accident scene next to Elim Hospital's gate said she had seen a Volkswagen Polo hit the learner.
The father of the victim, Mr Prince Mamukhuba, confirmed that his daughter is in a critical condition in Polokwane. He said that he was worried because the driver had not come to the family to speak to them, following Monday's incident.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed the accident and said they were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving. Mojapelo said that no arrest had been made yet. He urged motorists to obey the rules of the road.
