The man was killed during an incident which occurred at 21:30 on July 15. The deceased had one bullet wound. He was apparently shot from behind. The bullet entered his right shoulder and he probably died instantly. The man is unknown and could not be identified. He was in his early twenties.
According to a taxi driver, who is said to have been parked near the scene of the crime, five shots were fired by an unknown gunman or gunmen. He also said that two men assaulted another Zimbabwean male at the scene, at the same time that the shooting took place. The assaulted Zimbabwean man, Mr Nkulluli Vundle (23), who was treated in the Musina Hospital, claims that the Guma-Guma gang (highway robbers, illegally crossing the river and attacking refugees from Zimbabwe) was responsible for the shooting. He said that they posed as police officials and robbed himself and other Zimbabweans of their passports. Although he was found in the bush near the body of the deceased, he claims that the deceased was unknown to him and that he had never seen him before.
No arrests have been made so far.
