After conceding league points to the University of Western Cape FC, against whom they lost 0-1 in their Hollywoodbets Super League match at the UWC Campus Stadium last Saturday, Maindis Ladies are preparing for another challenging battle this weekend. They will face off against the University of Johannesburg FC at Giyani Stadium on Saturday.
Maindis bolstered their struggling squad by signing several new players, including two Zimbabwean nationals, Shamisa Mutasa and Purity Mugayi. The club's chairman, Mr Falaza Mdaka, is optimistic that these new additions will help the team avoid relegation at the end of the season. Maindis currently sits at the bottom of the league table with six points from 21 matches. To escape the relegation zone, they must win at least five of their remaining nine matches.
University of Johannesburg is coming from a 3-1 victory over Richmond United at the UJ Campus Stadium last Sunday. Maindis suffered a heavy 1-5 defeat at the hands of the University of Johannesburg in their first-round league match, which took place at the UJ Campus Stadium about five months ago.
In other matchups, Richmond United will face Thunderbirds Ladies at the Galeshewe Stadium in Kimberley. JVW FC will square off against University of Pretoria FC at the Tsakane Stadium in Johannesburg. Additional fixtures include First Touch Academy vs. UWC, Copper Belts vs. Coal City Wizards, Royal AM vs. City Lads, and Durban Ladies vs. TS Galaxy Queens.
