After conceding the league points to Cape Town City, who beat them 1-0 at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Tuesday afternoon, Black Leopards face another steep challenge when they host University of Pretoria FC (AmaTuks) in their Motsepe Foundation Championship match at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
AmaTuks are also reeling after their 2-1 defeat to Highbury FC at Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday afternoon.
In an interview shortly after their match against Cape Town City on Tuesday, one of Black Leopards’ co-coaches, Mr Sundra Govinder, said they regarded the defeat as water under the bridge and were focused on their upcoming fixture against AmaTuks.
Govinder said the final score was not a true reflection of the match, as his side had squandered several scoring opportunities. He added that the mood in the camp remained positive despite Tuesday’s defeat.
The fact that AmaTuks are still in contention for a place in the promotion play-offs means Black Leopards will not expect an easy encounter on Saturday. Leopards are second from bottom on the log with 18 points.
After delivering a strong performance against City on Tuesday, Leopards’ trio Carnel Cameron, Goodman Chirwa and Kamogelo Ngwane are expected to feature in the starting line-up on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, Venda Football Club will take on Hungry Lions at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington. Other fixtures include Baroka FC vs Leicesterford City, Gomora United vs Milford FC, The Bees FC vs Lerumo Lions, Highbury FC vs Kruger United, and Upington City vs Cape Town City.
