Awards for Musina's achievers

The Musina Mayoral Excellence Awards at the De Beers Venetia Mine Recreational Hall on Monday evening was a huge success.

MUSINA – The Musina Mayoral Excellence Awards at the De Beers Venetia Mine Recreational Hall on Monday evening was a huge success.

Awards were presented to community builders, farmers, academics, sports personalities and achievers in the fields of arts and culture. The recipients received certificates and cash prizes and, according to the mayor, Alderman David Phologa, the main purpose for the hosting the event was to encouarge individuals and groups to work hard and improve the economy.

The MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture, Mr Joe Maswanaganyi, was the guest speaker. He expressed the hope that the achievers will continue to excell.

The winner of the category for community builders was Daniel Mako, who received R1 500 and a certificate. In the development category, Mr Milo Banda received R2 000. Ms Jaeneth Banda received R2 000 for the best innovative idea.

The best emerging entrepreneur, Thomas Sithole, and the Musina Youth Project received R1 000 and R2 000 respectively. The winners of the category for emerging artists were Thundersouth and Midrands and they collected R1 000 and R2 000 respectively.

People who collected merit awards are: the Governor of the Reserve Bank, Mr Tito Mboweni, Dr Toyko Mudau, Nthuseni Nesane, Ms Magaret Tshilande, well-kown SABC TV Drama and Radio Actor Salome Mutshinya, Josam Ndou, the Dynamos kingpin, Zacharia Muleya, David Maahlamela and Kgomotso Mabola.

The top achievers in Grade 12 from Eric Louw and Musina High are Corna Wieringa of Eric Louw who collected R1 500 and a bursary, Gundo Dzivhani from Musina High and the overrall winner prize went to Rene Swanepoel, who received R2 000 and bursary.

During the function, the manager, Mr Abram Luruli, anounced that 33 learners qualified for a bursary.
