A promising young soccer player, Nnditsheni "Balo" Musekwa (26), was laid to rest in the Kutama cemetery on Saturday. Mourners from around the province attended the emotional funeral.

A promising young soccer player, Nnditsheni "Balo" Musekwa (26), was laid to rest in the Kutama cemetery on Saturday. Mourners from around the province attended the emotional funeral.

Musekwa played for Ablex United, who campaign in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League. He died last Wednesday after a short illness.

"This is a huge shock and totally unexpected. We mourn his death," said the coach of the team, Mr Africa Monyeoleote. According to him, Musekwa was an energetic young player who was enjoying football. Monyeoleote said that the whole area is in deep mourning and the mood is very sombre.

The president of Safa Vhembe, Mr George Kubayi, expressed his condolences to the grieving family. "Musekwa's death is not only a loss to his family, but to the whole community and the soccer family as whole. It is sad that he passed away, while he still had a lot to contribute to football," Kubayi said.

Mr Makhanda Musekwa, brother of the deceased said the death of his brother had left them with many unanswered questions. "There are things that we as human beings cannot change. We all have to accept those things and go on with life," he said.
