A consultant of the Elim branch of Absa Bank appeared in the Waterval Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the theft of R25 million.

Fhatuwani Mudzanani (27) of Mashau village had allegedly stolen R25 million from the Limpopo Provincial Government's accounts and deposited the funds into different bank accounts linked to him.

He was arrested by the Hawks at his workplace last Friday.

The spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke, said four Absa ATM cards, two withdrawal slips, and a cash amount were found and seized at the suspect's house. The suspect had allegedly transferred cash into different bank accounts he had opened.

He was successfully traced, and his accounts were frozen during the search of his house.

The case was postponed to Monday, 27 July, for a formal bail application and Mudzanani remains in custody.
