The National First Division log leaders, Baroka FC, dropped two significant points when they drew 1-1 with Mbombela United at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit on Sunday.
The Polokwane side took the lead in the 44th minute via Loyiso Simandla. He beat the keeper with a scorching long-range drive.
The home side spoiled the party towards the end of the game. Mbombela were awarded a penalty two minutes before the final whistle when Baroka were almost sure of victory. Victor Shongwe scored from the penalty spot with a half volley.
Baroka are still leading the pack, but the team is only two points ahead of Highlandspark.
In their Cape Town derby at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, Vasco Da Gama beat Santos 2-0. Sphesihle Stuurman opened the Vasco account in the 11th minute. He beat the Santos' keeper, Tashrique Goldman, with a ground cutter. Both sides had their scoring chances after the goal, but the final goal only came in the 81st minute when Daryl Smith scored after a square pass by Stuurman.
Amazulu lost 1-2 to Thanda Royal Zulu at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban. Thanda took the lead in the 11th minute when Menzi Hlope beat the offside trap and scored easily. Usuthu were only behind for seven minutes as Zaid Patel was on target in the 18th minute with a header.
Cape Town All Stars shared the spoils with Royal Eagles at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. They drew 1-1.
Highlandspark continued to pave their way up when they beat Witbank Spurs 2-0 at the Puma Rugby Stadium in Emalahleni. Mthatha Bucks rose to the occasion and beat Milano United 3-0 at the Mthatha Stadium. Black Leopards crushed African Warriors 2-1 at the Thohoyandou Stadium. Moroka Swallows registered their third victory by beating FC Cape Town 2-1 at the NNK Rugby Stadium in Cape Town. Swallows are still lying at the bottom of the log, despite an away victory.
