Dumasi All Stars will not take part in the next stage of the prestigious Vhembe Mayoral Challenge Competition. They lost 0-2 to United Artists in their opening match of the competition at the Lufule grounds on Saturday.
The game was played under protest. All Stars lodged a protest with the referee before the game started, alleging that two of Artists' players, Mashudu Mulaudzi, and the keeper, Nelson Nemadandila, were not properly registered with their team.
Artists' centre forward, Maanda "Bartlett" Mulaudzi, was a marvel to watch throughout the game. He scored a brace, with his first goal coming in the 27th minute. He flicked the ball back into the net with a header, following Almon Masakona's long-range attempt.
Dakalo Mutavhatsindi of Artists could not believe his eyes when his half-volley went a little wide. This after he had received a pre-cooked pass from Evans Mudau in the 36th minute. Artists were leading 1-0 when the teams adjourned for half time.
United Artists strengthened their midfield by introducing their lethal striker, Tony Mudzungwane, for Mashudu Tshitahe. The visitors from Dumasi village lost hope when Artists scored the second goal in the 79th minute. Mulaudzi headed home after a corner kick that was taken by Robert Baloyi. Artists enjoyed ball possession for the remaining part of the game, with Dumasi chasing their shadows.
