FC Basel are in a celebratory mood after being crowned champions of the Makhadzi One Woman Show Soccer Tournament at Thohoyandou Stadium on Tuesday (16 December), following a 1-0 win over ABC FC in the final.
Pattern Mabasa scored the only goal of the match in the 26th minute, forcing his way through ABC's defence before blasting in a rocket.
Basel received R50,000, a soccer kit, gold medals and a floating trophy after the game. Their route to the final went via Ramantsha Blackpool, whom they beat 6-5 in a semi-final at the same venue earlier that day.
Runners-up ABC FC received R20,000, a soccer kit and silver medals during the ceremony. ABC had secured their place in the final with a narrow 1-0 victory over Kalahari Stars.
Semi-finalists Ramantsha Blackpool and Kalahari Stars were each awarded R10,000 and a soccer kit. Basel goalkeeper Mashudu Nemakhavhani received the Best Goalkeeper award, along with R1,500 and a trophy.
Sipho Masia of Basel received both the Top Goal Scorer and Player of the Tournament awards, taking home a total of R3,500 and two trophies. Masia scored six goals in the tournament.
Another Basel player, Mavin Maluleke, received R1,000 after being named Man of the Match in the final.
Basel head coach Vhutshilo "Tsiki-Tsiki" Makhado received R2,500 and a trophy after being named the Best Coach of the Tournament.
Thirty-two teams from across Vhembe took part in the tournament.
