Popular rapper and hip-hop star Rotondwa Silimela, better known as Batondy, has a knack for delivering quality music to his fans.
The rapper, songwriter, and musician from Tshaulu Habegwa has been in the music industry for more than a decade. Over the years, he has won several prestigious awards, including a Limpopo Music Award in 2024 and two accolades at the Tshivenda Music Awards 2024, where he claimed the Best Hip-Hop Song and Best Collaboration awards.
Although Batondy primarily identifies as a hip-hop artist, he showcased his versatility with the release of a major album, Survival of the Fittest, in June 2024. Every summer, however, he ensures fans have dance hits to enjoy. This festive season was no exception as he released an EP titled Summer Time Life Volume 2, featuring six vibrant dance tracks.
"On this project, I collaborated with big names such as Prossboy, who is a dominant presence on the EP, along with Mac J, Khubvi Kid, DJ Limzer, and the young, talented Dombo Ke Star," he said.
The EP includes standout hits such as Magaraba, Mavhele, and Lotto. "These tracks can entertain in any setting - whether you're driving, sitting, or working. The songs have meaningful lyrics and are also great for dancing. I'm a brand on my own, and it's a well-known fact that Batondy is one of the best lyricists in the local music industry. The EP is already making waves and is being played on most radio stations, as well as at social gatherings and events," he added.
Although Batondy grew up enjoying a variety of music genres, he developed a strong passion for hip-hop, particularly Venrap. His career took a significant step forward in 2010 when he was signed by New Sound Records in Sunnyside. Over the years, he has collaborated with some of the country's top Venrap artists, including Prefix, Cash Flow, Fizzy, and Face Boy, among others.
