Bidvest Wits destroy ABC Motsepe leader

The ABC Motsepe League log leaders, Magezi FC, were hammered 0-6 by Bidvest Wits in their Nedbank last-16 encounter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Friday night.

The ABC Motsepe League log leaders, Magezi FC, were hammered 0-6 by Bidvest Wits in their Nedbank last-16 encounter at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Friday night.

The game started like a house on fire. In the second minute, Magezi were denied a clear penalty when Siyabonga Nhlapo handled the ball in the 18-yard area. Magezi had more ball possession in the first 20 minutes and Wits were unable to penetrate the last line of defence.

Calamitous defending from Magesi proved costly. In the 22nd minute Magezi defenders failed to clear the ball and they paid the ultimate prize for their poor defending when Daine Klate scored. Two minutes later, more bad defending put the game beyond Magezi's reach when Oupa Seete deflected the ball into his own net after another top cross by Nhlapo.

Klate added his second in the 41st minute with another fine finish after Elias Pelembe fed him a well-judged pass. In the 44th minute, Wits were awarded a penalty when Sibusiso Vilkazi was brought down in the penalty area. Klate completed his hat trick.

In the second half, Wits took the foot of the pedal and nearly paid the price. Just after the hour mark, Mpho Morakaladi couldn't keep his header down and it went over the top of the goal.

In the 70th minute, Magezi started to play entertaining football, but it was already too late. Wits continued to dominate the game. In the 80th minute, Vilakazi made it 5-0 from close range. Two minutes later, Klate scored his fourth goal of the match to make it 6-0.
