Seasoned gospel artist Phathutshedzo Muvhulawa, aka "Big P," has promised fans that his new album, which he has been working on for the past eight months, will be released on 20 December this year.
When asked why it had taken so long to finish the album, he explained that he did not release music just for the sake of it; he wanted to ensure he delivered a quality product for gospel-music enthusiasts. "I still have to listen to it several times to make sure it meets the standard my fans expect from my work," he said.
After an eye-catching performance during Bishop Fhatuwani Roxley Masevhe's birthday celebrations at Matondoni Park on Saturday, Big P was surrounded by fans eager to take selfies with him.
Big P released his debut album, Mudzimu vha divha zwothe, in 2012 when he was still based in Gauteng.
"The album did very well in the market and made me a household name in the gospel-music industry. There were times when I performed at different venues every weekend because I was in high demand," he said.
In 2014, he released his second album, Jealousy, aimed at educating people to encourage one another to excel in whatever they do, rather than being jealous of others' achievements.
"The demon of jealousy also exists in the house of the Lord, and you see Christians going up and down trying to discourage others from following their dreams. It is our duty as gospel artists to write and compose music that promotes happiness, prosperity, and living under the guidance of the Lord," he said.
His upcoming album is titled Maano Mavhi, which translates to "Evil Plans." When asked why his music focuses more on confronting evil plans in the world, rather than simply praising the Lord, he explained that the evils destroying this world stemmed from evil spirits.
"Through our music, we have to teach people to escape Satan's evil traps in order to worship the Lord without distractions," he added.
