This year's edition of the Lumveleni Festive Soccer Tournament will be the biggest ever in terms of sponsorship amount and the number of participating teams. The registration window for the tournament officially opened on Monday.
According to one of the organisers, Mr Lloyd Mashapha, 32 teams from around Vhembe will take part in this year's event. Mashapha said the first 32 teams to pay the R800 registration fee would secure places in the annual tournament.
He added that the opening matches would be played at the Ngudza Grounds outside Thohoyandou on Sunday, 15 December, with the semi-final and final scheduled for Monday, 23 December.
The champions will win R20,000 and will also receive a trophy and medals. The runners-up will take home R10,000 and silver medals. Teams eliminated in the semi-finals will each receive R5,000, while those knocked out in the quarterfinals will each be compensated with a cash prize of R2,000.
