Thohoyandou Stadium will be the place to be on Sunday afternoon when Black Leopards entertain Venda Football Club (VFC) in their Motsepe Foundation Championship match, scheduled to start at 15:00.

Black Leopards did not escape the relegation axe after Midlands Wanderers and Gomora United played to a 1-1 draw at the Malamulele Stadium on Wednesday. This effectively means that Lidoda Duvha can do nothing to improve their second-place finish on the log and will be demoted to the ABC Motsepe League next season.

As for VFC, the match will be little more than a formality, as Maunavhathu are safe from relegation following their 2-0 victory over Leicesterford City at Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday. VFC are eighth on the log with 36 points, while Leopards are second from bottom with 25.

VFC head coach Clinton Larsen said they wanted to win their two remaining matches and finish the season in a respectable position.

He said he would rest most of the team’s regular players on Sunday. Some of the lesser-known VFC players likely to be in the starting line-up include Thifhelimbilu Magalela, Mudodzwa Nemutshetoni and Unarine Kudzingana.

In other matches, Gomora United will host Kruger United at Malamulele Stadium, while Baroka FC travel to Cape Town to face Cape Town City at Athlone Stadium.

Other Sunday fixtures are Highbury FC v Hungry Lions, Midlands Wanderers v Lerumo Lions, Milford FC v University of Pretoria, The Bees FC v Leicesterford City and Upington City v Casric Stars.
