CAPE TOWN – Black Leopards gave Ajax Cape Town a run for their money when they beat them 3-2 in an equally contested Premiership match played at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town last Friday night.

As usual, Leopards were the superior side in as far as ball possession was concerned. Ajax were severely punished in the 11th minute, when the Leopards' goal poacher, Sibusiso Dlamini intercepted a poor back pass and was brought down in the box. Apart from the fact that Leopards were awarded a penalty as a result of that, the culprit, Shane Poggenpoel was also booked.

Christopher Netshidzivhe scored from the white spot. The home side did not press the panic button despite conceding an early goal. Leopards were still leading when the teams adjourned for half time. The team from the mother city levelled matters in the 46th minute.

The sweeper of Ajax, Shane Poggenpoel sent a long pass up field and Nathan Paulse gave it the final touch before it landed into the net. Ajax did not have time to celebrate the goal as Lidoda Duvha retaliated a minute thereafter. Paulse scored the equalising goal for Ajax in the 58th minute.

The Ajax keeper failed to hold on to the ball and a substitute, Jafta Mabosho slotted in the winner in the 84th minute. The referee, Lawrence Monnathoko gave Shane Poggepoel marching orders for a second bookable offence. The victory was the second for Leopards and the first for their new coach, Mr Shepherd Murape.
