Black Leopards must beat Stars

By Frank Mavhungu • 5 April 2013

Black Leopards may find it difficult to beat hot league title contenders, Platinum Stars tomorrow (Saturday). It is a must win match for them, however, if they want to move out of the relegation quagmire.

Black Leopards will, for two reasons, not find it easy to beat Platinum Stars when they meet in their Absa Premiership League encounter at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg tomorrow afternoon (Saturday).

Platinum Stars are one of the hot contenders for the league title. The Stars, or Dikwena, as they are affectionately called, will be fighting it in front of their home supporters. The two teams met in their Nedbank last-16 match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium three weeks ago. That was where Leopards lost 0-2 to kiss the lucrative competition goodbye.

Leopards must win the match despite all the odds in order to move out of the relegation quagmire. It will be time for the former Black Leopards playmaker, Robert Ngambi, and the left back, Edward Tshabalala, to prove to their former employers that they had committed suicide by letting them go. Tshabalala scored the Stars' second goal against Leopards in their Nedbank Cup KO competition match three weeks ago.

In the other Absa Premierhsip League matches that will also be played tomorrow, Lamontville Golden Arrows will host Kaizer Chiefs at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban. The University of Pretoria will play against Amazulu at the Lofus Stadium and on Sunday, Ajax Cape Town will rub shoulders with Free State Stars. Ajax must win the match as they are one of the relegation candidates. Also on Sunday, Bloemfontein Celtic will host Maritzburg United at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Moroka Swallows will entertain Bidvest Wits at the Dobsonville Stadium in the only match that will be played this evening. Ajax Cape Town will again play against Orlando Pirates at the Cape Town Stadium next Wednesday, April 10. Also on Wednesday, Supersport and Chippa United will fight for league points at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
