After a four-year break from music, the songbird Black Pearl Vee is back with her debut extended play (EP), titled Makatara. The five House tracks, Mama, Zwikete, Zwikolodo, Nyimele, and Ngyazifela ngawe, were released early in June this year.
Born Rabelani Vaidah Mugivhi, the 30-year-old from Ha-Mutsha Thondoni has made her mark on local music scene since she first started singing in 2015. "My love of music started at a very young age. I recorded my first song, Endless Love, in 2015. But my big break only came in 2018, when I was announced the winner of a singing competition sponsored by Thavhani Mall. That was the start of my rise to fame. In early 2019, I took my music career very seriously. I was ready to go all out there and push my music through radios, performances, and so on. I released my hit single, Tonto, featuring Shadoh'Vee Beats, which did very well, and I shot my first music video for my song, Crazy in Love. But it is not always easy to push your music as an independent artist. There's a lot involved in this industry. Talent alone is nothing."
However, she said this new EP marked her return to the music scene. "I took a big break from music, but I am back now. This year I already released two singles, Nyimele, featuring Mash K, and Ndo muwana, featuring Khathu. That was when I decided to work on my first EP (Makatara), which features other talented artists, Mash K, Mickey Black, Big Ropza and Lisha Muzique," she said.
The EP is about personal and other people's experiences.
