Ramantsha Blackpool finished the 2025/26 SAFA Vhembe Stream E season unbeaten after defeating Daniel Mubva FC 1-0 in a replay match played at Tshiozwi on Sunday.
The match was a continuation of a fixture that had been abandoned three weeks earlier after referee Matodzi “Ace” Sadiki collapsed on the field with about 15 minutes remaining.
The incident occurred in front of a large crowd that had gathered for the top-of-the-table clash. At the time of abandonment, Blackpool were leading 3-2 with 18 minutes left to play. Players, officials and spectators watched in shock as the referee received medical attention before being taken to hospital.
Following the incident, the referee submitted a report to the association. The matter was later heard by the league’s disciplinary committee, where both clubs appeared. The committee ruled that the remaining minutes of the match should be played at a neutral venue.
Blackpool had led the Stream E standings for most of the season. However, after the match was abandoned, Makhitha Oscar Stars moved to the top of the table with 72 points, while Blackpool dropped to second place on 71 points with two matches still to play.
Oscar Stars completed their league programme on Saturday with a 21-1 victory over Tshikhwani Stone Breakers, a result that surprised many football followers in the region and sparked widespread discussion among supporters. Blackpool eventually finished the season on 77 points, two ahead of Oscar Stars, who ended on 75 points.
The Stream E champions will now represent their stream in the regional promotional play-offs, scheduled for 11 and 12 July. They will compete against the winners of the other eight streams for a place in the next division.
Blackpool coach Ronny “Maronza” Ramaligela praised his players for their commitment throughout the campaign.
“I am very happy for the players because they deserve what they have achieved this season. Their hard work and determination have paid off,” he said.
Ramaligela added that the team would start preparations for the play-offs immediately.
“We will continue training and playing friendly matches to ensure that we are fully prepared for the promotional play-offs. Our focus is now on achieving promotion,” he said.
