According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Insp Moatshe Ngoepe Miss Nkhensani Mabunda (17) has paid her boyfriend Velly Wilson Mpenyana (21) a visit on the day of the incident. The statement indicates that the couple had a chilling argument before they went to bed. The reason of the argument could not be established.
During the argument, Mpenyana allegedly lost his temper and produced a fire-arm. He then shot Mabunda in the head.
She died instantly. Mpenyana later turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head. The police found Mpenyana and Mabunda’s bodies in a pool of blood, when they arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. They confiscated a 9mm pistol.
In another incident, the police have arrested a 30-year-old man at Landela Trust for murder. The incident took place at Landela Trust last Saturday night at about 23:00.
According to the police statement the deceased and the suspect were drinking beer at a local bar lounge when the incident took place. An argument ensued between the two over a bottle of beer.
The statement further indicates that during the argument the suspect produced a butcher’s knife and started chopping the deceased with it. The deceased fell down and the suspect continued to chop him until he lost consciousness.
He was later taken to the local hospital where he was certified dead on arrival. The deceased was identified as Mr Bethuel Mathebula (29) of Landela Trust Village. The suspect was arrested on Sunday morning. He was still to appear in court at the time of going to the press.
