The police in the Mopani area have opened an inquest and murder docket following the death of a 30-year-old man and his 18-year-old lover, whose bodies were found inside a house. The incident took place at the Mbekwana village in the Nwamitwa area on Sunday night.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Capt Maano Sadiki, it is alleged that the deceased, Lownick Mathebula and his lover, who was only identified as Sibongile, had been going together for some time despite the fact that Mathebula was a married man.

Accoring to the police statement, the relationship between the two turned sour when Mathebula heard a rumour that his concubine was having a love affair with another man. The statement goes on to say that Mathebula had on countless occassions questioned his lover about the persisting rumour and that she had told him that there was no truth in the stories.

According to the statement, Mathebula at one stage threatened Sibongile with death if she continued to maintain the love triangle. Capt Sadike stated that Mathebula proceeded to Sibongile’s kraal during the night of the incident.

Family members were surprised not to see Sibongile coming out of the house earlier like she used to do on Mondays. When they opened the door of the house in which she was sleeping, they found her body hanging from the rafters.

Next to her body was Mathebula’s, which was also hanging from the same rafters. The police are investigating the matter and have appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them at any police station.
