The body of 36-year-old Somali businessman Ali Nur was found in Manini on Friday, 13 February, nearly a month after he and his assistant were swept away by the Dzindi River during heavy flooding.
Nur and his assistant went missing on 17 January while attempting to cross the flooded river at Tswinga Bridge in a bakkie loaded with stock for Nur’s shop.
Almost three weeks after the incident, only the mangled wreck of Nur’s bakkie was recovered, while he and his assistant remained unaccounted for despite intensive search-and-rescue efforts.
Reports indicate that Nur was discovered by a man who was fishing. Although police have not yet officially confirmed the discovery, the rescue team said they have retrieved the body.
Mohamed Ali, Nur’s brother, confirmed to Limpopo Mirror that he was on his way to Manini after learning that his brother’s body had been found.
This is a developing story. The whereabouts of the missing assistant remain unknown.
