Residents of Waterval are still in shock after the body of a local woman who went missing earlier this month was found on Saturday, 22 April.
Tinyiko Baloyi (44) from Bungeni, who worked as a security guard, left her home for work one morning but never reached her workplace. Her family reported her missing last Tuesday (18 April).
Baloyi's body was found by a passer-by around the Hillside area, and the police were immediately notified. She had serious injuries to her head.
Baloyi's family members say they were struggling to come to terms with her death and they demanded answers. Ms Sheila Mathevula, the family spokesperson, detailed how the incident has affected her family. "She was a woman who used to look after her children and next of kin. It still hurts us how she had died, because she was always happy and never argued with anyone."
Sheila said they were hoping that the police would track down the perpetrator, but that their situation was being complicated by the fact that they were now being sent from pillar to post. "It's going to be more difficult because we are being delayed. Now we are requested to conduct a DNA test before we can bury our loved one. We don't know why, because we showed them the pictures of the deceased and also evidence," she said.
The police spokesperson in Limpopo, Lt Col Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed that the Waterval Police have opened a murder case that is being investigated.
