The body of a suspected border jumper was found floating in the Limpopo River without lips and cheeks by two fishermen on Saturday.
"We suspect the man was probably attacked by crocodiles or he drowned and his body was thereafter attacked by crocodiles while he was trying to swim across into South Africa. We are, however, still investigating," local police spokesperson assistant inspector Chris Ngwenya said.
The body was taken to Beit Bridge District Hospital mortuary, pending a post mortem.
"As police we continue to warn people against using illegal crossing points as they risk being attacked by crocodiles in the Limpopo River," Ngwenya said.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old Musina man was found lying dead in a pool of blood in Matswale Ext 9, in a suspected case of murder.
Musina police spokesperson Lieutenant Peter Mudau confirmed the incident, which is suspected to have occurred on Friday night at Matswale Extension 9 suburb in Musina. The body was, however, discovered on Saturday at around 06:00 by local community members, who then alerted the police.
Lt Mudau said they had since opened an inquest. He identified the victim as Cephas Mulaudzi, who was employed at a Game Reserve outside Musina. "Mulaudzi's body had several visible head and chest injuries; an indication that he could have been murdered, "said Mudau.
