Police in Tshilwavhusiku have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of his girlfriend in Madombidzha Zone 2 in the Sinthumule policing area.
The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, 18 February, following an intensive manhunt after the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 15 February, at about 02:30.
According to police, the deceased, Vhatshilele Sikuba (22) of Madombidzha village, was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend. She sustained multiple injuries to her head, hands and legs. Emergency medical personnel declared her dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident, preliminary investigations indicated that Sikuba had gone to the suspect’s home. Neighbours reportedly heard screams before discovering that she had been stabbed. The suspect allegedly fled the scene after the attack and is said to have informed the victim’s family of the killing.
A source close to the family previously indicated that the couple had been living together.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
Police investigations are continuing.
