Foster Ramuthogi has been arrested and charged with murder after surrendering to police following the discovery of his girlfriend Fhelisa Nevhufumba's body in a pit toilet. Nevhufumba died from fatal head injuries, and Ramuthogi is due to appear in court on 27 July.

Police have arrested Foster Ramuthogi (40), the boyfriend of Fhelisa Nevhufumba, after he handed himself over in connection with her murder.

Ramuthogi had been sought by police after Nevhufumba's body was found inside a pit toilet at her home in Ha-Lambani Mahagala, Tshaulu, on 19 July.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said Ramuthogi surrendered to police on Thursday, 23 July, and was arrested and charged with murder.

Nevhufumba's body was discovered at about 11:40 after family members raised the alarm. Emergency services retrieved her body, which had been covered with a blanket, from the pit toilet.

A post-mortem examination found that she had sustained fatal head injuries. Police then launched a manhunt for Ramuthogi after investigators were unable to locate him at his residence.

Ramuthogi is expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday, 27 July, on a charge of murder.

Police said the investigation was continuing.
