Tshikhwani Stone Breakers held Magau United to a thrilling 1-1 draw in the final of a pre-season soccer tournament at the Magau grounds on Sunday.
As it was already too dark to continue with a penalty shoot-out, the referee called the match off. The match will be replayed at the same venue on Sunday.
The draw was a fair result for the evenly contested match. In the first half, Breakers spent the whole match running for cover. The absence of many players in the United defence was felt from the onset. Khuthadzo Mpfumali could not make the grade, as the opponents used him as their freeway.
If a soccer match could be won through the number of scoring chances a team creates, Breakers would have won the match convincingly. Their strikers wasted several opportunities.
Two players of Breakers, Ronewa Ratshilingana and Phungela Ndadza, were reprimanded with cards early in the second half for rough tackling and time-wasting respectively. United scored first, when Mpho Mavhandu received a beautiful pass from Thabelo Netshiendeulu in the 70th minute, forced his way through the United defence and unleashed a ground cutter. Mavhandu finished off a rebound.
United enjoyed their lead until the 88th minute, when Breakers found the equaliser. Their killer-striker, Silas Rammbona scored via penalty.
