According to the police statement it all started when a certain reported a case of housebreaking and theft at Phalaborwa Town last week. The statement indicates that two firearms and numerous valuable items were stolen during the incident.
The police then embarked on an operation starting from last Thursday with a view to recover the stolen goods. The police the received the information that the thugs who were terrorizing the area were from Sekhukhune area and that they were hiding there.
The police followed the tip and proceeded to the Sekhukhune area on Sunday. That is where a group of six men was apprehended. Upon questioning the suspects allegedly led the police to Groblersdal town where they recovered a huge amount of stolen goods.
The value of the recovered goods is estimated at about half a million rand. The goods range from television sets, DVD machines, hi-fi’s, radios, cellphones and video machines. The police have appealed to the people who had fallen victims of housebreaking and theft to go and identify their items from the recovered goods.
The suspects were still to appear in court at the time of going to press. The police are investigating the matter further and are optimistic that they will make more arrest in a short distant furture.
