Primary and secondary schools in the Bungeni area took part in a one-day soccer tournament at the Njakanjaka Grounds on Saturday, aimed at raising awareness among learners about the dangers of crime and drug abuse.
Four primary schools and three secondary schools competed in the event, with each team receiving a soccer kit and two soccer balls. In the secondary category, Hluvuka High beat Mahatlani High 5-3 in the final, walking away with a trophy, gold medals and two soccer balls. Mahatlani Primary were crowned champions in the primary schools section after edging Njhakanjhaka Primary 3-2, and also received a trophy, gold medals and two soccer balls.
Tournament sponsor Sydwell Mosungwa of Mosungwa Attorneys said the initiative showed his commitment to serving and uplifting the community. "We are part of this community and we are doing this to support local people," he said, pledging continued sponsorship.
He encouraged young people to get involved in sport and focus on education. "Sport and education are the keys for the future of our youth. Stay away from crime and drugs, and concentrate on your studies," he said.
