After a long hiatus, the renowned reggae and gospel group Burning Fire is back with a brand-new single, Khulunoni. This marks their first release since 2022, when they won a South African Traditional Music Achievement (SATMA) Award for their song Mukonisi.
The group, consisting of Khuthadzo Mavhusha and Rudzani Mbengeni from Tshifudi village, along with Ronald Mahumele from Tshaulu village, spent the past year working on a highly anticipated album, with Khulunoni serving as the opening track.
Khuthadzo (Ambasada), the group's senior member, began recording his compositions in 2017, showcasing his musical brilliance. Rudzani (Mufeelister) initially pursued hip-hop in 2008 but transitioned to reggae in 2012 after being inspired by Khuthadzo's talent. Ronald (DJ Light) developed a passion for music early on, creating rhythms with tins and sticks.
Ronald now serves as the DJ and sound engineer, while all three members contribute to vocals, songwriting, and performances. The group has previously released an eight-track EP and two albums—Road to Zion and Miloro (Dreams)—both in 2022, as well as Dzanga La Mesia, which came out four years ago. Their SATMA award-winning song, Mukonisi, was featured on Miloro.
Speaking about their latest single, Mufeelister said they wanted to illustrate to their fans where God is seated on the throne. The inspiration comes from Revelation 4, which describes the heavenly throne room and the glory of God.
"This chapter transitions from Christ's messages to the seven churches (Revelation 2-3) to John's vision of God's divine majesty and the unfolding of his plan for the future. This song is very special to us. Our fans have been waiting, and we're excited to finally share something new with them," he said.
The group announced that fans could look forward to the full album's release in December, promising a fresh yet uplifting sound that stays true to Burning Fire's signature style.
