Burning Fire, a well-known reggae and gospel group, have set their sights on this year's South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (SATMA) function, hoping to win an award as Best Reggae Group/Artist.

More than 100 musicians from across the country, including Burning Fire from our own shores here in Vhembe, were nominated three months ago and are now anticipating the moment of truth, which will be revealed on 1 October at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

Khuthadzo Mavhusha and Rudzani Mbengeni from Tshifudi village and Ronald Mahumele from Tshaulu village formed Burning Fire three years ago. This collaboration between the three artists seemed to be the perfect one, producing a reggae sound infused with gospel vibes and melodies.

Khuthadzo, known as Ambasada, is the group's senior member who has consistently demonstrated his musical brilliance since the start of his own musical journey, when he began recording some of his compositions in 2017.

Rudzani, aka Mufeelister, had musical aspirations to become a hip-hop artist back in 2008. In 2012, however, he was greatly inspired by Khuthadzo, who was (and still is today) a highly talented performance artist, singer and songwriter. Since then, Rudzani has developed a noticeable enthusiasm for reggae music.

Ronald, known as DJ Light, grew up with a musical mind from an early age, when he would play rhythms with empty tins and sticks. He takes on the role of DJ and sound engineer. All three band members are on vocals and contribute to writing and performing their songs.

Their most recent eight-track EP, titled Road to Zion, was released four months ago and was well received by their fans with songs such as Mesia. The EP features fellow artists Sims Mal, Mr Lover, Vha Dogi and many others.

The group members say they are very excited to be nominated in the Best Reggae Group/Artist category. "We are putting our faith in God and look forward to winning this award."
