A local businessman was found dead at the Elim shopping complex early on Wednesday morning, 14 December. The deceased was identified as Mr Sam Miyeni (68), who owned a bottle store in Louis Trichardt.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Tshifhiwa Radzilani, the deceased's body was found by a resident at the shopping complex at around 05:00. The police were then informed about it.
"When the police arrived, the caller was not there at the scene. The body was found lying near the Post Office. There was with blood coming from his ears. Two of his cellphones were missing," she said.
Radzilani said that the police had opened an inquest docket and they were calling on anyone with information to contact the Waterval Police.
Residents are complaining about the high crime rate in and around Elim. "Crime is becoming a daily occurrence here. Shoppers are being robbed of their hard-earned money and groceries. We are planning to strike; maybe then our cries will be heard," said one of the residents.
