Venda Football Club (VFC) are rolling up their sleeves in preparation for a tough game against Lerumo Lions, whom they will meet in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The fact that VFC and Lerumo Lions are both aiming for the top of the log is reason enough for local soccer fans to expect a thriller. VFC and Lions are in sixth and seventh position on the log respectively, with 24 points each.
The head coach of VFC, Clinton Larsen, told Limpopo Mirror that they were going to use Lions as their stepping stone. When asked how the absence of Tatenda Tavengwa would affect his plans, Larsen said that VFC had a pool of quality players, the likes of Neo Ntombela and Reagan Lubesha. Tavengwa was given a red card in their game against Gomora United at Malamulele Stadium two weeks ago.
The head coach of Lions, Tshepo Maphari, said that he did not know much about VFC except that Maunavhathu are a hard nut to crack, especially in front of their home crowd.
Black Leopards will play against Gomora United at Malamulele Stadium in one of Saturday’s fixtures. Baroka will host The Bees FC at the Global Stadium in Lebowakgomo. Things are tough in Baroka’s camp. The team is perched in second-last position on the log with 14 points, two above Black Leopards.
The pace-setters, Milford FC, will entertain Highbury FC at King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, while the other title chasers, Cape Town City, will have a date with Midlands Wanderers at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. The other fixtures are Hungry Lions vs Casric Stars, Kruger United vs Upington City and Leicesterford City vs University of Pretoria FC.
